The Lobby At Shades Of Green On Walt Disney World Resort: The Everyday Adventures Of The Purple Van April 9, 2010
There's a real hidden gem of a resort at Walt Disney World that you may not even know exists. It's called Shades of Green and this is what the lobby looks like:
Shades of Green is something called an Armed Forces Recreation Center owned by the US government to provide R&R for military and Defense Department personnel and their families. It became Shades of Green in 1994 and was expanded in 2004 and now has 586 rooms.
The resort has a very interesting history. It opened as a golf clubhouse in 1971 for the Palm and Magnolia courses across from the Polynesian. You'll note that the lobby still has a bit of a golf clubhouse look. 150 rooms were added in 1973 and it became know as the Golf Resort. An additional 150 rooms were added in 1986 and the resort changed its name to The Disney Inn with a Snow White theme.
Unless you're a golfer or are actually staying at Shades of Green, it's difficult to get a look at the resort You really can't see the building from its entrance near the Polynesian resort, and, as you might imagine, there's a good deal of security at the entrance!...
