The Krewe Of Port Orleans At Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort: The Everyday Adventures Of the Purple Van February 4, 2010
Port Orleans French Quarter has lots of references to New Orleans...and to Mardi Gras...like this jester guarding the rear entrance to the lobby.
On either side of this jolly fellow are sides of a coin...one with Bacchus labeled Port Orleans and the other side with a jester noting the year French Quarter opened (1991) labeled Krewe of Port Orleans. Krewes are the masking and parading clubs for which New Orleans is famous.
You might also note that there is no reference to "French Quarter"---the name that was later added to this resort...

Hey, John, we call 'em doubloons, and they are cast each year with the name and official likeness of the crewe and the current year, along with a picture and description of the theme for the current year parade, and they are "minted" in silver, gold, green, and purple metal.
A lot of natives have quite the collection of doubloons from past years, at least the ones that survived Katrina.
The ones from the Rex parade are really prized.
Just thought you might want to know the name they go by down here.
I am impressed that you know about krewes, by the way!
Happy Mardi Gras!
And geaux Saints!

The lanterns are much cooler looking at night. Wished we had ventured over from Jambo after dusk.
